Mary Morrison, 65, of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after her 3rd battle with cancer. She fought like a warrior until her very last breath, her strength over the past 7 months has been a true inspiration to all who knew her.
Mary was born on March 23, 1959, to Charles and Maureen Buchanan in Columbus, OH. She graduated from Westerville North High School in 1977 and went on to pursue her passion for nursing at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her degree in 1984.
Dedicated to her profession, Mary spent 4 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Oklahoma Children's Hospital and then devoted an incredible 32 years to the Nationwide Children's Hospital NICU in Columbus. Her commitment to her patients earned her the esteemed "Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses," a testament to the love and respect she garnered from her patients, their families, and her colleagues.
In 1977, Mary met the love of her life, Brad. They married in May 1982 and enjoyed 42 wonderful years together married (47 years together), raising three children: Adam, Andrew, and Kristen.
In 2023, Mary retired, embracing her newfound time with family and grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling to various destinations with Brad.
Mary was predeceased by her mother, Maureen, and father, Charles. Brad's mother, Arlene, and father, Stanley. She is survived by her husband, Brad; children Adam (Brooke), Andrew (Karina), and Kristen; grandchildren Jaxon and Marley; siblings Diane (Oscar), Chris (Theresa), Kevin (Kelli), Brenda, and Kim (John); Brad's siblings Kevin (Suzie), Kerry, Kendall (Dee), Kay (Bill), Brian, and Blair (Audrey); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Mary was an extraordinary person and a bright light in everyone’s life. Her warm and inviting presence touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was immensely talented—an exceptional baker, cook, seamstress, artist, and nurse—able to excel at anything she set her mind to. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a truly special person who will be deeply missed. Her legacy will live on through all those she inspired during her meaningful life.
The family warmly invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life at The Barn (5451 Edwards Farms Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221) on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Visitation hours will be from 1 PM to 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation, where Mary dedicated 32 years of her life.
