Mary Ann Nilsen, 90, longtime resident of Superior, WI, died Saturday, March 28th, 2026 at Aspen/Middle River Health and Rehab in South Range, WI.

She was born in Chicago, July 26th, 1935, the daughter of James and Agnes (Soleim) Barthen. She married Walter "Mickey" Nilsen on January 24th, 1956 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing.

She attended school at Superior Cathedral and was the mother of six boys. She worked at several places before becoming a successful business woman for many years before her retirement.

Mary Ann was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior. She enjoyed bowling, raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. Mary Ann and Mickey retired as owners of the Cove Cabaret and Bi-Rite Store, both in Superior, and the Hinckley and Superior Flea Markets.

MaryAnn is survived by her six sons, Rawn (Janet) Nilsen, Duluth, MN, Gary Nilsen, Houston, TX, Michael (Nancy) Nilsen, Duluth, MN, Darryl (Stephanie) Nilsen, Little Falls, MN, Mark (April) Nilsen, Minneapolis, MN, and Greg Nilsen, Superior, WI; nine grandchildren, Julianne, Eric, Max, Michael, David, Patricia, Aaron, Josi and Kate; and six great-grandchildren, Emilia, Haden, Lillianna, Owen, Isla, Evelyn and one on the way; brother James (Marlys) Barthen and sister Judy Bergstrom.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, with Father Andrew Ricci officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Superior.
