Mary Pazahanick

A longtime and well-respected lady of the Pine City community passed away, Thur. Feb. 13, 2025 with her loving family by her side at the age of 96. Mary was born on August 10, 1928 in Troy, PA, daughter of the late Warren & Mildred Batty York. At an early age Mary understood the importance of education. After receiving her Bachelors Degree from Mansfield University, her graduate work took place at Elmira College where she earned her Masters Degree. Mary's love of children was evident in the many years she taught school at Parley Coburn. She is remembered for her wit, sense of humor and mostly her smile. She enjoyed gardening and was most happy when surrounded by her family. Mary was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. She married the love of her life, Peter Pazahanick on July 16, 1949 in Mansfield, PA and he predeceased her in 2009. They set an example to others by their love and devotion for each other. She is survived by their children, whom she mentioned often, sons, John York (Nancy) Pazahanick, Minneapolis, MN; and Andrew Warren (Betsy) Pazahanick, Atlanta, GA; daughters, Mary Lea Cayer (Keith Marshall), Elmira; and Jean Renee' Kenney, Longmeadow, MA; grandchildren, Jarret Pazahanick, Jeff Pazahanick, Ryan Pazahanick, Colin Pazahanick, Amy Pazahanick, Austin Cayer, Kristin King, Colleen Primo, Peter Kenney and Brianna Perry; several great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marcia York, Ft. Myers, FL; nieces, nephews and many family friends and colleagues. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a sister, Lois (Ben) Garrison, Mansfield, PA; brother, Ronnie York. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport on Wed. Feb. 19, 2025 between the hours of 2- 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thur. Feb. 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin St. Elmira, NY 14904. Graveside services will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery and she will rest beside her beloved Peter.
