Mary Peitler

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of an extraordinary woman, our mother, Mary Peitler.

Born in Inwood, NY, Mary peacefully left us in Stuart, Florida, on Friday, November 28, 2025, just days after her 90th birthday, following a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Julius; her youngest child, Susan Caparelli; and her brother, Pete Ciaravolo (Gina). Mary is survived by her son, Steven Peitler (Stephanie), and her daughter, Linda Pensabene (John). She was a proud grandmother to Erica Livreri (Anthony), Daniele Di Chiara (Nicholas), Samantha Zois (Theo), Alexandra Fabrizio (Kevin), Sabrina Peitler (Derek), and Julien Caparelli (Erica). Additionally, she leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and her two sisters, Philomena Ciaravolo and Anna Scalone (Sal).

Mary lived life to the fullest. She worked as a secretary for Lawrence Public Schools, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was an active volunteer, including as President of the PTA. After the untimely passing of her husband, she returned to Queens College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to have a successful career at Xerox, where she achieved an executive position before retiring. In January 2016, Mary made Florida her permanent home, after having enjoyed her time as a snowbird between Long Island, NY, and Jensen Beach, FL.

A woman of many passions, Mary was a dedicated member of the Rosary Society at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Inwood. She cherished her weekly Mahjong games with lifelong friends Joan, Rosie, and Patty, and later with her daughter and daughter-in-law. Her summers at Sun & Surf Beach Club were filled with tennis, bridge, bocce, and showcasing her artistic talents at the annual Labor Day Art Show.

Mary embraced life with enthusiasm, participating in book clubs, a knitting club, and her favorite casino outings. Her vibrant spirit and creativity radiated through all her activities, while she lovingly fulfilled her roles as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her zest for life and unwavering passion for living defined the remarkable woman she was.

We invite you to join us for a special church service in her honor on Monday, December 15th, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Isle, located at 312 East Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY 11561.
