Mary S. Quiles, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Watsonville, California, at the age of 88.
Born on April 4, 1937, Mary spent her life devoted to family, faith, and community. She was the wife of Juan Manuel Quiles for 57 years.
Mary worked at Food and Nutrition, where her warmth and work ethic touched the lives of many. Beyond her professional life, Mary enjoyed cooking for her family, extended family and friends. Mary was known for her love of games—especially Parcheesi, Phase Ten, Bingo and Chinese Checkers. Her playful spirit and sharp mind made her a favorite opponent of her children.
She is survived by her loving children: Grace Ortega, Manuel Ortega, Rosa Ortega, Judy Vazquez, Estee Martin, Mary Lunsford, Rudy Ortega, John Quiles and Jason Quiles.
Her sisters and brothers: Josephine Lopez, Angie Ruiz, Rachel Torres, Lilly Arrey, Jesse Sanchez, Salvador Sanchez, Anita Nasadowski, Lorenzo Sanchez, Raul Sanchez, Emeralda Rodriguez and Suzie Olguin.
Her 16 grandchildren with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and the joy she brought to those around her.
Mary raised her children in the church, instilling in them a deep faith and strong moral foundation rooted in Christian values. Through her example of devotion, kindness, and unwavering belief, she nurtured not only their spiritual growth but also a lasting reverence for the presence of God in their lives. Her greatest legacy to her children is the enduring love of God—a gift that continues to guide, comfort, and inspire them throughout their lives. Mary lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Carroll Family of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
