Mary Elizabeth Royster Thompson

1946 - 2022

Mary Elizabeth Liz Thompson, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on August 25, 2022, at SOVAH Health Hospital, at the age of 76. She was born January 7, 1946, to the late Mary Crowder Moore and the late Charlie Vernon Royster.
In addition to her parents, Liz is also predeceased by stepfather Herman Taylor Moore, and stepmother Margaret Mills, as well as her two cherished brothers: Charlie James Royster and Ronald Wayne Royster.
Also predeceasing her was her beloved son, Jay Daniel Thompson, who was tragically taken from this world in 2016. She then lost her husband, Danny Wayne Thompson, soon afterward. They had been married 49 years. Additionally, she is predeceased by one great-grandson, Julian Albino.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth Royster Overby, and three grandchildren: Megan Savannah Thompson (Wade Woods), Madalyn Danielle Thompson (Nick Albino), and Dylan Smith. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, and her two beautiful cats, Molly and Susie. Liz loved animals and would feed anything or anybody that came to her door.
Having lost five babies early in her life, Liz was giddy whenever she got to be around small children. Great joy awaited her in Heaven.
Liz is most known for her iconic voice at Danville Regional Medical Center, where she was the switchboard operator until her health failed in 2014. She went above and beyond at her job, and she received commendation for her service there.
Liz had several dear, life-long girlfriends, and regularly enjoyed activities with them. A frequent customer of Lowe s, she loved to continually paint and re-decorate her home.
Despite all the tragedy she endured in this life, Liz loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. She was a member of St. Mark P.H. Church and was most recently attending Timberlake Baptist Church when able. She had a strong faith that carried her through the dark valleys. She is now out of pain and resting in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends Friday and Saturday at the home of her niece, Angie Vipperman, 1709 Maple Drive. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 29th, at 11 am at Timberlake Baptist Church, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Timberlake Baptist Church Building Fund.
