Mary Poynter Scott, of Corbin, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 78 years old.

Mary was born on November 29, 1946, to parents George I. Poynter and Mary Adelaide Poynter.

All her life Mary believed in serving others in work, in faith, in family, and in her friends.

A devoted Christian, Mary was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where she and lifelong friend Mary Ann Lee enjoyed heckling Minister Bobby Joe Eaton.

Throughout her life, Mary was known for her strong work ethic. She routinely worked 12-hour shifts in the Times-Tribune composing department putting together ads, pages, and sections of the newspaper. In all, Mary worked at the Times-Tribune for more than 30 years, holding various positions including Composing Foreman.

Perhaps most importantly she enjoyed serving her family and friends. She was always there to help others in every way she could. As an avid homemaker, Mary often invited traveling friends and family to her home, where she made sure they had warm beds and home-cooked meals. Her former neighbor jokingly referred to her home as the "Scott Hotel".

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Jasper Scott; her parents George and Mary A. Poynter; and brother Don Poynter, all of Corbin.

She is survived by her daughter Ruby Adams and husband Herman of London; granddaughters Sarah and Ashley Adams of London; brother-in-law Calvin Scott and wife Peggy of LaFollette, TN; nieces Annita Scott of Mishawaka, IN and Jackie Neer and husband Bryan of Grainger, IN.

She will also be fondly missed and remembered by a wealth of extended family and friends throughout the area.

Visitation for Mary Scott will begin at noon. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where the funeral service will start at 2 pm., with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.  Burial will follow at Snuffer Cemetery, in East Bernstadt, KY.
