MARY CLYDE SEITZ
Mary Clyde Seitz, affectionately known to all as "Grandmary", passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was 99 years old. A life defined by love, family, friends, and a gentle spirit. Grandmary's memory will be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
Born in
Wolfe City, Texas, on October 28, 1926, to Clyde and Moree Bailey, Mary Clyde's roots in the Lone Star state ran deep. She attended Sherman Public Schools and as a student at Sherman High School was a standout athlete, earning all-district honors as a talented tennis player. She later attended Austin College. Her professional life demonstrated her strength and intelligence; she began her career at Sherman Savings and Loan and through hard work, rose to the position of Vice President at Sherman Savings and Loan, later First Texas Savings before her retirement in 1986.
On March 22, 1947, Mary Clyde married the love of her life, L.A. Seitz. They shared a remarkable 61 years of marriage, building a life together until his passing in 2008.
Grandmary was a woman of many passions. A member of the First Methodist Church, Sherman, her faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her favorite hymn, "It is Well with My Soul". She was an accomplished artist, her work a testament to her creative spirit. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially gathering around a table for a game of cards or dominoes with family and friends. These moments were often punctuated by her favorite charming expressions like, "Oh my word", "Bless your heart", or "I'll be switched". But, our all-time favorite was when she ended a telephone call with "call me if you need me".
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. An amazing cook, she nourished their bodies and souls and she eagerly anticipated their cherished summer vacations to Colorado. Grandmary's sweet disposition meant she loved everyone unconditionally, and being around her family was where she truly shined. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Mary Clyde was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Moree Bailey; her beloved husband, L.A. Seitz and her sister, Charlie Jo Mackey. She is survived by one son, Clyde Allan Seitz and wife Lynda; one daughter, Leigh Ann Phillips and husband Gene; one granddaughter, Kristi Phillips and her husband Michael; two grandsons, Mark Phillips and Daniel Seitz and his wife Cassandra; great grandchildren, Landri Seward, Bailey Seward, Jax Seward and Finley Seitz; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park on Friday, December 19 to celebrate Grandmary's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Chancel Choir of First Methodist Church Sherman. Grandmary's competitive spirit and loving heart will forever reside in the memories of those who knew her, a constant reminder of a life beautifully lived.
