Mary A. Sons, age 64, formerly of Lockport, Illinois, passed away peacefully early morning of November 3, 2025, with her brother and sister by her side.
She was born on September 10, 1961, to the late Robert and Dorothy (nee Janovsky) Sons. She leaves behind her brother, Robert (Teresa) Sons; sister, Janice (Michael) Barth; brother-in-law Tom Bravato (the late sister Barbara); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; longtime companion Jim Bowdre; cousins, Ron Janovsky, Ken (Maria) Janovsky, Pat (Wes) Havekost, Barb Ragan and Scott Ragan; and dear friends; as well as her best furry friend Missy, who she loved as her own.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Sr. and Dorothy Sons; and sister, Barbara (Sons) Bravato.
Mary was raised in Lockpor,t and was a Porter fan all her life, as well as a White Sox fan. She worked for her brother in downtown Lockport at Discount Depot and the Lockport Hotel. Mary also worked for the Lockport Police Department as a meter maid. She spoke often of her fellow coworkers who she cherished not only as friends, but as family too. She also worked at Clark gas station and never met a stranger, making friends of everyone she met with her infectious smile and laughter. She loved to host parties in her younger years at her home for her friends. Later on in life, when her health took a turn, you could find her sitting at the kitchen table with her neighbors, doing diamond dots and puzzles or scrapbooking.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 11am to 2pm at Goodale Memorial Chapel, 912 S Hamilton St, Lockport IL, 60441. Cremation rites will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that when you see a nurse, buy them a tank of gas or dinner, and let them know it was from Mary.
A special thanks goes out to all the healthcare workers that interacted with Mary, all her life but especially in these past few years at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
