Mary Hellen Tillis, affectionately known as Ms. Mary, gracefully departed this world on September 9, 2025, in Livingston, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on March 28, 1949, in Garrison, Texas, she blossomed into a warm, loving, and kind soul, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A proud homemaker, Mary dedicated her life to nurturing and uplifting her family. Her love resonated deeply in her roles as mother, grandmother, and friend. She took immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, finding fulfillment in her hobbies, which included crocheting, babysitting, and fishing. Mary's spirit was also intertwined with her faith, as she was a cherished member of the Onalaska Church of Christ, where her kindness and warmth radiated to everyone around her.
Mary's remarkable legacy continues through her beloved family. She is survived by her daughters, Shaneatha Arnold-Harrison (Tramier) and Latasha Arnold, and her son, Maurice Arnold, as well as her cherished grandson, Justin Arnold and granddaughters Jakayla Arnold, Tramiya Harrison, and Trameah Harrison. Siblings Leroy Wallace (Patricia), WJ Wallace, and Sherlyon Jennie Gulett are joined by her nieces Malissa Johnson, Santara Patton, and Sherlyon Patton, and her nephew, Willie Oneal Sykes, in mourning the loss of a mother, sister, and aunt who embodied compassion and grace. Additionally, she leaves behind a special friend, Anthony Parker (Katrina), and a host of other relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Mary was preceded in death by her dear mother Louise Gibson, her father TC Wallace, and her loving husband Lester Tillis. She is also reunited with her sisters Valrie Sykes and Dorothy Wallace, and her brother James Wallace, who await her in eternal rest.
In this tranquil passage from this life, Mary Hellen Tillis not only fulfilled her earthly roles but also fulfilled the divine purpose etched in her heart, leaving behind whom she loved fiercely. She shall be sorely missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire warmth and kindness in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
