Grieco Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.Mary Barbara Toman, age 92, recently of Harbeson, Delaware, passed away on October 6, 2025, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA. She previously lived for 40 years in Kennett Square. Barbara was predeceased by her late husband, Edwin Howard Toman, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage and five children.
Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George Plasket and Martha (Rouse) Plasket. Barbara grew up in Moorestown, NJ with her loving parents and two brothers George and Richard. She attended Western Maryland College, where she met her husband Edwin, and received a degree in Sociology. She worked as a teacher briefly before starting a family. After her children had grown, she joined the Kennett School District as an aide, devoted to helping students excel and learn. Barbara volunteered with several area organizations including the Kennett Symphony League, After the Bell, and the Episcopal Church of the Advent.
In her spare time, Barbara was an extremely creative person who loved to paint and write poetry. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, and her very happiest place was Ocean City, New Jersey, where she made so many special memories from her childhood to later with her children and grandchildren.
Barbara will be remembered for her appreciation of nature and her wonder at its endless beauty. She will also be remembered for the incredible love she had for her family. She will be missed for her kindness, generosity, loving spirit, and ability to see joy all around.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathryn Spencer (Leon), Patricia Weed (Bob), Lauren Farrell, David Toman (Wendy), Scott Toman (Dawn); her grandchildren Jacob (Mollie), Kyle (Morgan), Kendra (Ryan), Caleb (Sabrina), Gillian, Amanda, Garrett, Blake, Lindsey, and great grandchildren Jayson, Lyla, and Sabree.
You are invited to visit with Barbara’s family and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 North Union Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Her memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM. Following the service, interment will take place at Longwood Cemetery, 945 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
