Mary Alice Turner Ramsey, age 97 of Ferrum, passed away Friday February 11, 2022. Born in Sydnorsville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin King Turner and Nannie Grace Heard Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband D.M. "Doc" Ramsey, Jr. and her two brothers, Edwin H. Turner and William R. Turner.
Mary Alice graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1941. She was the owner and operator of the Chief Tassel Beauty Shop in Martinsville, VA and served on the board of directors for Carter Bank and Trust for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville.
Following her retirement and the sale of her beauty shop, Mary Alice started ball room dancing which she continued to do until physically unable. She also traveled extensively. Her trips took her to many foreign countries and allowed her to meet many new friends.
Mary Alice is survived by her nieces Debra Turner Gilmore (Dave) and Kathryn Turner Welch Rhodes, and her nephews Christopher E. Turner (Mary Jane) and William R. Turner, Jr (Amy), and a host of great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Saturday February 26, 2022 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount, VA. A memorial service, with Pastor Chris Bennett officiating, will begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
