Mary Sue Varner

VARNER, Mary Sue, 92, a resident of Deatsville, AL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 5, 2025. Funeral services will be officiated by her grandson, Rev. Matthew Nixon on Monday December 8, 2025 at Wadsworth Baptist Church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Wadsworth Baptist Cemetery with Prattville Memorial directing. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. Mrs. Varner was preceded in death by her parents, James and Beulah Downs; husband, Edward Hugh Varner; grandson, Joseph Johnson; 3 brothers, J.E. Downs, Wesley Downs and Charles Downs; 2 sisters, Polly Johnson and Linda Thompson. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Susan Varner, Debra Ray (the late, Jimmy Ray), Leighea Rye (Danny) and Mariea Powell (Russell); son, Edgar Varner (Stephanie); 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Magdalene Manning and Martha Shriver; brother, John Downs; extended family and friends.
