Death Notice

Mary Ann Voigt

FOX LAKE – Mary Ann Voigt, age 77, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
Mary Ann was born on January 26, 1945 to Frank and Marion (Haberman) Stuntebeck. She was a 1963 graduate of Marshall High School. On December 17, 1966, she was married to Donald Voigt and moved to his family farm in Beaver Dam, where she enjoyed caring for the farm animals and raising three children. The family would move to a smaller farm 10 years later, where Mary Ann added work at Shopko, Green Giant, and a seasonal position at the Wisconsin Cheeseman to her role as homemaker before retiring early for health reasons. Mary Ann and Don would acquire a farmette in Fox Lake in 2004, where she continued to live after he relocated to Larson House in Columbus in 2014.
She would spend hours every day on her GrandPad tablet playing Word Search and Bingo and watching a scroll of the hundreds of photos that had been uploaded by her family. She also enjoyed having video chats with her daughter, especially the ones taking place in Central Park, so she could watch the squirrels playing in the background. Mary Ann could often be found gazing out of the window at her well-fed wild birds or feeding her "driveway birds" and chippers, as she affectionately called her growing family of chipmunks. To say she was passionate about the game show Jeopardy is not an exaggeration, and most knew not to call her at 6pm! Mary Ann's fondness for professional wrestling was well known as well, as she always tried to recruit new fans. Her favorite pastimes include cheering on the loudest and toughest tractors at a local country fair tractor pull, "dancing" in her power chair as she listened to 50's music, watching Milwaukee Brewers games, old television shows and movies and snuggling with Sammie, her beloved feline.
Mary Ann fought her way through many illnesses, hospitalizations, and rehab facility stays over the years, always determined to return to her home. She had a very giving and kind nature that balanced out an inherited stubbornness. Her passing will leave a void in many lives.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter Kim Voigt (Robert Gaude) of New York City and two sons: Chad Voigt of Iron Ridge, and Thomas Voigt of Lake Tomahawk; her three brothers David (Loretta) Stuntebeck of Marshall, Ervin Stuntebeck of Marshall, and Richard (Janice) Stuntebeck of Sparta; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Fassbind of Monona, Janice (Robert) Gibbs of Lemoore, CA, and Dorothy (Harold) Stelter of Beaver Dam; and three grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mary Ann's family would like to thank Serena, whose agency Serenity at Home provided Mary Ann with in-home care for many years, with the help of caregivers Carolyn, Renee, Courtney, Angela, and Ashley. They not only supported her with daily care, but with love, compassion, and companionship. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Emily Detjen at the Piggly Wiggly in Randolph, Ken Schregardus of Randolph, and especially the Fox Lake EMS staff!
The visitation will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cambridge on Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 11:00 A.M. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens, Cottage Grove.
