Mrs. MaryAnne Ezzi left this world on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, just four months shy of her 90th birthday. While our hearts ache, we honor her legacy of selflessness. Amid our tears, we celebrate her new home in Heaven, where she joins God, her two sons, her husband, her parents, and her lifelong friends. No words can truly capture how profoundly she will be missed, but we find solace in knowing that MaryAnne is at peace, free from pain, and surrounded by love. She is, without a doubt, an angel among angels.

MaryAnne and her husband, the late Nicholas Ezzi, raised four children: the late Charles Ezzi, Maria Hess, Susan Ezzi-Bloxton, and the late Joseph Ezzi. She loved without judgment, lived with gratitude, and found joy in every moment— even when tragedy seemed insurmountable.

She became a nurse later in life, hitting the books after the kids were tucked in. As commencement speaker at graduation, she said that in her day, women had two choices: to be nurses or nuns. We’re thankful she chose the former.

MaryAnne served several hospitals but built a 30-year career at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Her promotions were frequent: nurse, director of nurses, then administrator. When she retired in 2007 at 72, hundreds packed the banquet hall to bid farewell, thanking her for her profound impact on their lives. It was a testament to how cherished she was as a nurse and a person. Because of her modesty, she never grasped how many lives she positively impacted. She led the Skilled Nursing Department with such compassion that her reputation remains strong among current employees, and her former employees remember her as a caring mentor. She was an authentic servant leader: her greatest joy came not from being in the spotlight but from lifting others into it.

She loved the beach, bingo, the Phillies and Eagles, bowling, casinos, movies, theater, music —and sweets. She could spend hours on her porch. Her faith was deep, and her holiday tables—set with gold silverware, usually at dawn because she was anxious for Christmas to start —were a testament to her devotion to family.

MaryAnne leaves behind a family who must find strength in a world without her because that’s what she would want: Her daughters Maria and Susan, daughter-in-law Margaret McBride, grandsons Nicholas Anthony Bloxton (Lauren Casey and their children, Jayce Anthony Bloxton, Brooke and Robert Halpin), JC Huggins (Amy), Eric Ezzi (Nicole and their daughter, Frankie), Benjamin Hess, David Brennan, his mother, Barbara Brennan, and her daughter, Melissa Brennan.

Family and friends are invited to MaryAnne’s visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA, 19382, followed by her Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Interment at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery is public.

Friends and family will be most welcome at a luncheon after the burial at Pica’s Restaurant, 7803 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA.
