Maryanne "Judy" Shay

Maryanne (Judy) Shay passed away peacefully on September 13th at The Evergreens in Moorestown, NJ, where she was a long-time resident. She was 95 years old.
Born on April 23, 1930, in Philadelphia to Frances Turner and Thomas McKenna, Maryanne's early life was marked by both loss and resilience. Her father passed away in an automobile accident when she was just five years old, yet she went on to graduate from Germantown High School with honors and later attended Temple University on a scholarship.
In 1956, she married Howard John Shay and together they had three children. After Howard's early passing in 1973 from colon cancer, Judy raised their children with strength and determination, ensuring that each went on to attend college. To support her family, she began teaching typing at Cherry Hill High School West in 1967 when her youngest went to kindergarten. She retired 27 years later.
Judy was a long-time resident in Haddonfield, New Jersey. As founder of the Neighborhood Association, she advocated tirelessly for thoughtful development and strong local government.
Judy is survived by her three children and four grandchildren, who will remember her determination, quick wit and fierce spirit. She lived in tumultuous times and faced personal tragedy with courage and grace, serving as an inspiration for her family and friends.
