Masaaki Takahashi Obituary

Masaaki was born in Tokyo in 1939. He studied medicine in Japan before moving to the U.S. in
the late 1960's with his wife Kayoko, settling in the Chicago area and eventually Skokie.
Masaaki studied French cuisine in New York City, and became a popular chef in some of the
finest establishments in the Chicago area, including the Fireside Inn, Bryn Mawr Country Club,
and the Continental Hotel. Masaaki created intricate and thoughtful menus to serve his
customers; he loved a perfectly cooked steak, enjoyed home-cooked Japanese food; and trying
unfamiliar foods during his travels.
He was a foreman at Nippon Express before retiring in the1990s. In his later years, he enjoyed
spending time with his grandchildren.
Masaaki is survived by his wife, Kayoko; daughter Lisa Natanek (Brad) of Chicago; son Kentaro
Takahashi (Carolina) of Mesa, AZ; and grandchildren Minami and Megumi Natanek, and
Madoka and Issaku Takahashi. He is predeceased by his sister and parents.
