Mathew Michael Peterson

Mathew Michael Peterson, age 56, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on October 23rd, 2025 in Des Moines, IA. He was born on July 27, 1969, in Des Moines, the son of Michael Peterson and Deborah K. Christensen. Mathew lived his entire life in the Des Moines area.

Growing up, he loved playing baseball, soccer, tennis, golf, and basketball, and more recently had taken up learning to play the guitar. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mat was a charismatic, outspoken, strong and stubborn man who was adored by all who he met. He loved rock music, fishing, chaos, he brought the party wherever he went. He was rebellious and hilarious and was not shy to express his feeling to the world.

Mat's heart was in the ocean, in the sky and full of fire.

Mathew is survived by his sisters, Dawn Schaefer and Jasmine Coffin; his aunt, Sheryl (Marlin) Graham; grandfather, Pete Peterson; and his nieces and nephews, Jessie (Julie) Parker, Jamie (Christina) Parker, Christopher (Destiny Williams) Parker, and Joseph (Dominique) Parker, along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carroll W. Christensen, Leona Mae Neil, and Norma Peterson, and his cousins, Jeremy, Lesa, and Jeremy Jr. Parker.

Mathew has been cremated, and no services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Iow Methodist Medical Center Critical Care Unit.
