Mathilda Martha Mendes Walker, who was born and raised in Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago, has gone home to meet the Lord on Friday October 19, 2012. Mathilda passed away at home in Ocala, FL at the age of 87. Mathilda was the loving daughter of the late John Mendes and Maude Lilia Whiteman. Mathilda grew up and went to school in Siparia, Trinidad where she frequently returned to visit family and friends. Mathilda moved from Trinidad to New York at the tender age of 23, where she lived and worked for 40 plus years. She moved to Ocala, FL after retiring from Trans World Airlines as a reservation agent in New York. Mathilda was the loving widow of Moses William Walker, and has spent the last 44 years as a dedicated and loving mother to six children. Mathilda leaves to mourn, sons: Richard Walker and Emmanuel Walker; daughters: Angela Walker-Horn, Annice Walker, Valerie Walker, and Cecelia Scope Walker. She has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and was blessed to have seen them grow. Mathilda was the loving sister of the late Bishop John Mendes of the Roman Catholic Church in Trinidad and Tobago.,the late Francis, Anthony , Emmannuel and Arnold Mendes, Wallen Emmanuel (Chookie) Whiteman, Louis Richards and Winninfred Richards. Mathilda, being 1 of 15 siblings, leaves 6 surviving siblings, sisters: Theresa,Carmina, Cecilia, Bernadette,Philomena and brother Joseph. In addition, Mathilda was cousin to the Whiteman family , Nicome family and Gomes family, with countless nieces and nehpews, friends and co-workers . Mathilda has spread Love, Joy and Kindness wherever she went. WE WILL MISS HER DEARLY. Rest in Peace Mother! Father Charles Leke will perform funeral services on Saturday October 27, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the Sholom Park Gardens. Mathilda will then be laid to rest in the Long Island National Cemetery in New York, beside her late husband a United States Veteran of World War II. We salute you Mathilda to the highest in Honor of the virtue you have displayed as a devoted widow and mother. May God Bless you with Peace Mathilda! "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
