Mathilda Maria "Tillie" Stuchly

Tillie was a simple country girl born to Jim and Mary Rosenauer in Moulton, Texas on December 16, 1927. Tillie attended school thru junior high in Moulton and then stayed home to help take care of her brothers and sisters, 7 children in total born to Jim and Mary.
She later met and married her love, Rudy, in Holman, Texas on September 27, 1948. They first lived in Weimar, Texas, and owned/operated Rudy's Café for a number of years, before moving to Sealy, Texas, and opening Rudy's Restaurant. Several years later, both Tillie and Rudy retired and moved to East Bernard for a few years. They finally settled back in Sealy in 1984. Tillie and Rudy made many great friends and lots of memories on a quiet and pleasant street with good neighbors. They made a wonderful home with plenty of room to host family for holidays and Saturday morning pancakes. Rudy and Tillie enjoyed their senior years together. Rudy passed on May 11, 2007, and a short time later, Tillie moved out of the house that shaped so many memories.
Tillie is survived by her daughter Maryann Hughlett; son Rudy Stuchly, Jr. and his wife Carol, and son Donnie Stuchly and his wife Geneva. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Joey, Kimberly, Nicholas, Randy, Richie, and Ryan; and great-grandchildren Asher, Brighton, Christian, Eli, Jase, Jemma, Jeremiah, Marshall, Mason, and Wyatt. Tillie is also survived by her brothers James and Gene Rosenauer, sisters Irene Cernoch and Shirley Coughran, and sisters in law Marilyn and Joyce Rosenauer, sister-in-law Ovella Stuchly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rudy Stuchly, Sr.; Brothers Alvin, Harvey, and Leroy Rosenauer; Sisters in law JoAnn, Gladys, and Ruthie Rosenauer; Brothers in law Bennie Cernoch and Richard Coughran; and son-in-law Richard Hughlett.
Tillie was a talker and she never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone about anything and anywhere. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was hardly ever sick, and always told people it was because she was a "tough ol' German".
Tillie loved to garden, tend to her flowers and plants, and enjoy the simple pleasures that the earth produced if given enough care. She enjoyed being outside and active, playing dominoes on occasion, and even helped her son part-time at the Starlight Saloon for a bit. She later worked at the Good Samaritan in Sealy for several years. For the longest time, Tillie had a standing appointment at the beauty shop every week to get her hair done. She'd shop at the local stores, and get her grocery shopping done, and she certainly had her routine. You'd see her coming in that big long white Cadillac, with Grandpa Rudy sitting shotgun. They loved to go riding and visit friends and family. She enjoyed cooking and baking as well. She was famous for making "that German dish", which is potato dumplings, green peas, and sauerkraut layered up. It always brought us all to her house to enjoy it. Liver dumpling soup was another family favorite. It was many Sundays that she'd have a wonderful homecooked lunch for all of us to stop by and enjoy after church.
Tillie will be greatly missed. She was very loved. I hope that your own memories of her will bring you peace and comfort. The art of conversation is often lost these days, so in remembrance of Tillie, have a good long chat with a friend, maybe over a nice dessert.
