Matilde Mel Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Matilde Mel, a cherished mother, daughter, spouse, grandmother, and great-grandmother and friend, who left us peacefully on February 27, 2025, at the remarkable age of 93.
Matilde was born in Argentina, where her vibrant spirit and deep love for her homeland flourished. In her 30's she immigrated to the US. She dedicated her life to family, selflessly nurturing and supporting her loved ones. In her youth, she made a daring leap as a sky diver for the Red Cross, showcasing her adventurous spirit. Throughout her life, her commitment to service shone brightly as she volunteered at Variety Children's Hospital in Miami and contributed to the Head Start program, helping children and families in need.
During the Mariel boat lift, Matilde dedicated her time to assisting refugees, reflecting her deep compassion and desire to make a difference. She proudly represented her Argentine heritage in Miami and Orlando, serving as the president of the Argentinean Club in Orlando and fostering a sense of community among fellow Argentinians.
Matilde cherished her 35 years working for Walt Disney, where she became a beloved figure, spreading joy to countless guests. A true matriarch, she played an immense role in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Renowned in the family for her unparalleled "back tickles" that brought laughter and love to every gathering.
A passionate traveler, Matilde found joy in visiting tropical paradises like Cuba and Puerto Rico and made it a tradition to travel back to Argentina each year to reconnect with her family. Music was a significant part of her life; she loved to dance, filling her home with the vibrant rhythms that resonated in her heart.
Matilde is survived by her loving family, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her legacy of love, service, and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In honor of Matilde's generous spirit, memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude’s's Hospital, ensuring that her compassionate legacy lives on.
Rest in peace, Matilde. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
