It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Bernal, who left this world far too soon on January 31, 2026, at the age of 24, finding peace on the open road while doing what he loved most. Matthew was born on June 18, 2001, in
Tulare, California, and later made his home in Hanford, where he built a life rooted in love and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sadie; his beloved sons, Joel and Warren; his loving parents, Andrea and Tony; his cherished brother, Vincent; and his beloved grandmothers, Josie and Socorro, who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his two uncles, Anthony and Alex Magana.
Matthew was a truly special soul. He had the most infectious, charming, unforgettable laugh and smile, and a sense of humor that was effortless - the kind that caught you off guard and left you laughing long after. His presence could light up any room.
His life was defined by his free-spirited way of living - embracing each day fully. He loved deeply, lived boldly, and left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Matthew grew into a man known for his energy, strength, and bold, fearless confidence. He loved Harley-Davidson and took "The Reaper" out whenever he could. Riding his motorcycle was more than a hobby - it was where he felt most alive. With the wind against him and the engine roaring beneath him, he felt completely himself. He was also a passionate collector, treasuring each piece not just for its value, but for the meaning, memories, and pride behind it. Whether tied to his love of motorcycles, sports, or personal milestones, he appreciated the story each item carried. That same joy and pride carried into other parts of his life, especially the traditions he shared with his family.
Growing up around sports, Sundays during football season were sacred - cheering on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with unwavering loyalty and pride. And when basketball season arrived, that same passion filled the room as he rooted for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Those games weren't just about scores or standings. They were about tradition - about gathering together, sharing food, shouting at the TV, celebrating big plays, and believing every season could be the season.
In those moments, surrounded by the people he loved most, his pride, excitement, and deep love for family shone brighter than any stadium lights.
As a husband, he loved faithfully, unconditionally, and wholeheartedly. His love was steady and strong - the kind that showed up every day in both the quiet moments and the hardest ones. That same devotion carried into his work. He was incredibly hardworking, dedicating himself to ensuring his family had a beautiful life. He took great pride in making sure they were cared for, supported, and surrounded by the life he dreamed of giving them.
As a father, he was a hero, a protector - the very definition of home. Joel was his greatest pride and joy, and it showed in everything he did. Every laugh, every lesson, every embrace was filled with intention and love.
There was nothing he cherished more than singing at the top of his lungs, dancing without hesitation, or turning the living room into a basketball court with his son. He made sure Joel learned his exceptional taste in music, passing down not just songs, but stories. And with that same joy, he instilled in him the fierce, unapologetic passion for basketball and football that runs deep in the family.
And now, as Sadie carries Warren, there is both heartbreak and miracle intertwined. Though Warren will never feel his father's arms around him, he will grow up wrapped in his legacy. He will hear about the way his dad lit up a room, the way he loved hard, laughed loud, and lived proudly. He will know that before he ever entered this world, he was already loved beyond measure.
His presence remains - in Joel's smile, in Warren's future, and in the strength Sadie carries every single day. A father's love does not end. It echoes. It lives on. It becomes the foundation his sons will stand on for the rest of their lives.
As a son, he honored his family with unwavering loyalty and deep respect. He made his family proud not just in words, but in how he lived - with heart, conviction, and devotion. As a brother, he was protective and dependable, a steady source of strength and wisdom. He stood firm when it mattered most and loved without hesitation.
As a friend, he showed up. He encouraged, supported, and remained true. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you knew you had someone in your corner for life.
Matthew was a one-of-a-kind man who followed the road that made him feel most alive. He lived with passion. He loved deeply. He believed fiercely. And he left an imprint on everyone blessed enough to know him.
Though his time with us was far too short, the love he gave, the strength he showed, and the spirit he carried will continue to live on - in the stories we tell, in the traditions we keep, and in the hearts of those who love him most and carry him forward every single day.
