Matthew Bohn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home - New Hartford on Jan. 27, 2026.
Matthew Bohn, III, entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2026, with his beloved family by his side.

He was born on June 11, 1947, to Matthew and Evelyn (Gifune) Bohn. On October 4, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia Butler, with whom he shared 56 loving years.

Matt was a graduate of New Hartford High School, where he was honored as the first-ever captain of the New Hartford Spartan hockey team. He furthered his education at Utica College, where he played club hockey, and later graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University.

Matt devoted his entire professional career to banking, beginning at Marine Midland and Hayes National (Bank of America), and continuing with NBT, GPO Federal Credit Union, and Adirondack Bank, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Operations.

A deeply active member of his community, Matt served for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the New Hartford Fire Department and was a former president of its Benevolent Association. He was a past member of the Town of New Hartford Board of Assessment and Review and served as Deputy Town Supervisor. Matt also served on several boards, including St. Elizabeth College of Nursing and New Hartford Youth Hockey. He was a proud member of the Elks and the Sons of the New Hartford American Legion.

Matt had many passions in life. He was an avid golfer and former member of Yahnundasis Golf Club, where he spent much of his free time. He loved passing on his knowledge and love for hockey, coaching his son during his years with New Hartford Youth Hockey and later his nephew with Clinton Youth Hockey. He spent nearly two decades as treasurer for the Clinton Figure Skating Club and served as Ice Show Chairman for 13 years.

His greatest passion was his grandchildren, Delanie and Garret. He was involved in every part of their lives - they were truly his sunshine.

Matt is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his son, Matthew (Kimberly) Bohn of Edgewater, Maryland; his daughter, Bridget (Edward) of New Hartford; and his beloved grandchildren, Delanie and Garret Roberts. He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Sheryl) Bohn of Clinton; his niece, Amanda (Jon) Libby; nephews Stephen DesJardins, Michael DesJardins, and Kelley (Chris) Obryan; brother-in-law Mark DesJardins; great-nieces and nephews Russell DesJardins, Lily DesJardins, Brent DesJardins, and Lagatha Obryan; as well as several cousins and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law, Jean DesJardins.

The family would like to thank all those who provided care, support, and kindness during this time.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, January 29, from 4–7 p.m. at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford.
