Matthew E. Catchur

1960 - 2023

Matthew Ernest Catchur "Matt or Big Cat" age 63, passed away from a cardiac event on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 doing what he loved – working out at the gym. He had just celebrated his 63rd birthday on November 25th.
Matt was born in Gary, Indiana, grew up in Merrillville, Indiana and for the past 20 years lived in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a Graduate of Merrillville High School Class of 1979, and Indiana University Bloomington Kelley School of Business.
Matt is survived by his mother, Helen Catchur, Kansas City, Missouri, his three brothers, Mark (Mary) Catchur, Tampa, Florida, Greg (Josh) Catchur, Kansas City, Missouri, John (Karen) Catchur, Valparaiso, Indiana.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Michelle (Patrick) Kennedy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was also Michelle's Godfather. Nicholas Catchur and Matthew Catchur, Tampa, Florida, Shannon Catchur and Morgan Catchur, Valparaiso, Indiana. Matt is also survived by many, many close friends all over the country who were like family to him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Catchur. Upon the passing of his father, as the oldest, Matt became the head of the family, caring for his mother and 3 brothers with kindness and compassion. There was also a strong bond and friendship among the brothers. Whether it was debating over who was the strongest, who drove the fastest car, or whether somebody had taken their finger off the chess piece, completing their move, there was always some form of friendly competition.
For the last 15 years Matt worked in many roles at CVS Health, most recently as a District Training Store Manager. He previously worked in the mortgage industry for many years before moving to Arizona. In his role at CVS, he loved the people he worked with and was focused on inspiring trust and engaging with people to achieve success. He had a great work ethic and received many awards throughout the years.
Matt was an avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to golf. He could never resist a sunny day on the golf course. He also prided himself on working out and staying in shape.
He loved IU Basketball, the Cubs and growing up the 1970's as a Steelers fan.
He also enjoyed his time playing on many recreational softball leagues in Northwest Indiana, followed by post game recaps at R-Place.
He was a true Jimmy Buffet fan – Parrot Head and loved to attend concerts and travel.
Matt's friends and family meant the world to him. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people and remain present in their lives. He was so proud of his nieces and nephews and always the first to mention or comment on their activities and achievements. Matt was someone you could count on and truly a great and loyal friend to all. His passion for life was unmatched.
According to Matt "Every day is a good day. There may be speed bumps along the way but there is never a bad day".
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Additional visitation will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at the Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.
Private burial will take place at Demotte Cemetery.
