Matthew R. Chobanian

1936 - 2025

Matthew R. Chobanian, 88, of Lower Burrell, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born in New Kensington on Nov. 3, 1936, to the late Eghia and Julia Repak Chobanian and was a lifelong resident of the local area. Mr. Chobanian was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, and worked as an estimator for Numec, Apollo, until retiring in 1980. He was a Navy veteran and enjoyed gardening and sailing. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne M. Nee Chobanian; twin stepchildren, Dennis (Dianne) Liotta of Levittown, PA, and Denise (Jeff) Thomas of South Euclid, OH; three grandchildren, Joshua Chobanian, Elizabeth Liotta, and Caleb Spisak; and siblings, Pauline (Samuel) Gruber of Freeport, William (Brenda) Chobanian of Sewickley, and Julie Colpo of Apollo; five great-grandchildren, Kaydee, Blake, Jayse, Olivia, Maci. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew E. Chobanian; and siblings, Susan Halupa, Nazareth Chobanian, Mary Chobanian, Paul "Jack" Chobanian, Betty Sosigian, Anthony Chobanian, Stephen Chobanian, Martin Chobanian I, and Martin Chobanian II. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road, at Alder St., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025. Burial with military honors by the Navy will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Boro.
