Matthew Czecha

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Matthew Czecha, 61, of Silver Spring, Maryland, who passed away from natural causes in his home July 3, 2025. He was the youngest of six children born to Faith (nee Miller) and Stephen J. Czecha.
Matt was a 1982 graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, MD, where he played football and was known by his teammates as "Captain Crush" and "Maddog". He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park and was a licensed Professional Engineer. His career focus was on the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial and academic buildings.
He enjoyed his friends, Rock n' Roll, bicycling, sports spectating and the outdoors, particularly the Brookside Gardens and Rock Creek Park near his home. He was independent and proudly frugal. He loved his friends, neighbors and family and was godfather to his niece Claire. He was a deep-thinking man of few words, a very kind soul and embraced a "live and let live" ideal. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by siblings Alice "Jackie" Czecha, Vincent (Sue) Czecha, Stephanie (Dean) Chartrand, sister-in-law Carla Czecha, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was in preceded in death by his parents, Faith and Stephen "Steve" Czecha, brother Gerard "Jerry" Czecha, sister Ruth Czecha, brother-in-law David Pedersen and nephews Mohamed "Buddy" and Khalid "Ludie" Elnigoumi.
A Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 10:30 AM, with visitation beforehand at 10:00 AM. The church address is 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854.
Interment will follow the Mass at the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906, followed by a luncheon reception in the church library hall.
