Matthew Gerzanich Obituary
Phoenix - Matthew Emerick Gerzanich, 47, of Phoenix, son of Benjamin and Christine Gerzanich, passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2018. Matt was born and raised with his sister Melissa in Santa Fe, NM. After graduating from Capital High School, he joined the Navy in 1988, serving 2 years. He eventually moved to Phoenix, AZ to work. As a result, he spent most of his adult life working & living in both Santa Fe and Phoenix. Matt was known to be very smart and an accomplished problem solver. He enjoyed reading and working on artistic projects. He was blessed with a sense of humor and didn't mind laughing at himself. Matt made friends easily as he was always friendly, thoughtful and quite charming. He was a proud and loving father. Matt's son, Charles Gerzanich, now 16, was born in Phoenix. Matt's Arizona family included Sarah Chapman, Charles's mother and her other children, daughter Kelly Chapman, age 23 and son David Mann, age 12, as well as Kay Chapman, Charles's maternal grandmother.
Matt was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Gerzanich. Surviving family members are his parents Benjamin and Christine Gerzanich of Santa Fe, aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Rueben (Tina) Varela of CA, uncle Brian Gerzanich of Santa Fe, uncle Armando Carrillo of Santa Fe and many cousins including James and Angel Carrillo, Stephanie Aragon and Jasmine and Jaden Johnson of Santa Fe.
On Monday, April 9 from 1-3pm a visitation will be held at the Advantage Funeral Home Maryvale Chapel @ 6901 West Indian School Road, Phoenix AZ 85033.
