Matthew Kent Jordison, known to family and friends as Kent, a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle, passed away at his home in Herriman on November 10, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born on October 17, 1937, to Matthew Jordison and Jenny Tame Jordison in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kent was raised in humble circumstances in West Valley City, an area formerly recognized as Granger, Utah. Kent attended Cyprus High School, and it was during this time he held a job bagging groceries at the original Harmon's grocery store. It was there that he met the love of his life, Judy DeBry, when she was caroling with a group.
On May 28, 1957, Kent was united in marriage to Judy DeBry. Their commitment was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1965. Their enduring union of 68 years stands as a profound testament to their unwavering love, commitment, and partnership. Kent and Judy dedicated themselves to hard work, raising five children, and establishing a lifetime of cherished memories.
Kent's legacy is carried on by his children: Corrine Miller Church, Brad Jordison (Alene), Rick Jordison, Gary Jordison, and Kurt Jordison (Krista). He is also survived by a large and loving posterity, including 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his siblings: Janice Jordison, Deanne McConkey (Jim), Eileen Clark (Terry), Glenn Jordison (Rae), Jeanine Cobb (Howard).
Kent was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Corrine Judith DeBry Jordison; his parents, Matthew Jordison and Jenny Tame Jordison; his infant sister, Gail Jean Jordison; and his sons-in-law, Wesley Charles Miller and Scott Hayden Church.
Kent married young, at age 19. He had an amazing work ethic. He started working as a bagger at Harmons grocery store when he was 17-18 years old, and then moved on to Utah Power & Light, where he held many positions. Working his way up, his roles included: Tree Trimmer, Groundman, Apprentice Lineman, Journeyman Lineman, Serviceman, Troubleshooter, Dispatcher, and Dispatch Supervisor. He retired early from Utah Power and Light and then moved on to work for Dunn Oil and ARA.
He loved traveling and seeing new sights. He had many hobbies in his middle age, including playing softball for the UP&L Softball Team, golf, fishing, gardening, and landscaping. He was quite an accomplished handyman, working on vehicles to repair them, finishing basements, building room extensions, building decks and redwood patio furniture, plus painting, laying tile, and, of course, electrical projects. He was very good at math and algebra and loved playing Sudoku. He served as Executive Secretary to Bishop Charles Smith in the Midvale 5th Ward.
Kent's memory will be cherished by his family and friends. His life serves as a legacy of love, hard work, and determination, and a reminder to always keep trying, which he did until the very end.
A special thank you to his Hospice Care Team at Canyon Hospice.
