Matthew Kolbe Obituary

Published by Wieting Family Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 21, 2011.
Matthew Ronald Kolbe, age 23, of Chilton, died on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. He was born September 1, 1987 in Neenah, son of Ronald & Sandra (Matthies) Kolbe. Matthew was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was known around town as the biggest Chilton Tiger sports fan who rarely missed a home baseball or basketball game. He was quite the athlete himself, having participated in Special Olympics for many years. Matthew loved spending time with his family. Whether he was fishing with his grandfather, golfing with his best friend and brother, or making sure everyone knew where the stones were on the farm during stone picking season, Matthew relished every moment he spent with someone else. He delighted in late night campfires, and holiday meals making sure no one ate a thing until prayerful thanksgiving was offered and he had said, "Amen!" Matthew was an amazing person whose endless love and joyful laughter would light up a room and bring forth genuine smiles to the faces around him. His larger than life spirit and personality will certainly be missed by his family, but also the entire community who grew to know this man of character. Survivors include his parents: Ron & Sandi; his brother and best friend: Luke Kolbe of Chilton; maternal grandparents: Dan & Judy Matthies; paternal grandfather: Clem Kolbe; maternal great-grandmother: Verna Schneider; aunts and uncles: Rich (Susan) Kolbe, Roger (Cheri) Kolbe, Pete (Carol) Mueller, Gerard Kolbe, Mark Kolbe, Debbie (Pete) Geiser, Kathy (Mark) Burg, and Patty (Mike) Pickerill. He is further survived by many cousins, other relatives, and friends. Matthew was preceded in death by an infant sister: Stephanie Kolbe; his paternal grandmother: Grace Kolbe; and his maternal great-grandfather: Bill Schneider. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Burial will be in the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in Charlestown. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, February 25, 2011 and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A parish vigil service will be held Friday evening at the funeral home at 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Matthew R. Kolbe so that his spirit may live on in the city he loved.
