Matty May began as, and will always be my favorite brother-in-law. He was all that is said about him: warm, funny, kind and brought light into any room he walked into. Everyone wanted to sit at Matty May´s table. But he was also one of the most interesting people to have conversation with. He was extraordinarily well read in world history, politics, science and a great lover of music.

He was immediately adored by all of us kids when our older sister Peggy brought him home to meet us; Matty was especially loved by our mother Bernice.

He loved our sister "Peg" as he always called her, and their three sons. When his sons were growing up, wherever you saw Matty, you saw his boys. He was enormously proud of his boys and even more proud of who they became as men.

Always modest, Matty would say that "Peg did the hard work with the boys.." but if you have the good fortune to know their sons, a prominent vein of Matty May´s goodness, kindness, love of family and laughter, shines through his boys .

Your great laugh, wit and smile will always be missed by those of us who loved you best. Rest easy and be as free as a bird our beautiful Matty May.

My brother-in-law was never an "in-law". He was always my brother. He could put anyone at ease in any situation with his own down-to-earth ways. Never a bragger, he walked his own path. All were welcome to join him. His death leaves a void that nobody can fill. May he rest in true peace. We have an angel watching over us. Love you always and miss you, MaryBeth (Peg's sister)

I had the privilege of growing up in Jersey City with Matty May. During those years he was one of my very best friends. We shared so many great memories. Hanging out on the stoop at 239 New York Avenue, playing so much basketball at the courts by St Paul of the Cross, drinking a beer or two or three in Bower Street Park , and eventually graduating to the Full Moon Saloon!

As life moved on we drifted apart and didn't see each other as much as we once did , but my memories of Matty never faded. Whenever I reflect back on my childhood Matty May is always there.

What I remember most about him is his smile. He always had a way of brightning a room and lifting everyone's spirits. He carried himself with a cheerfulness and a warmth that made everyone around him feel better. I will carry our friendship in my heart for the rest of my life.

Rest easy my friend, you will never be forgotten......
