UTICA – Matthew A. Militano, age 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with his loving family by his side or held close in his heart.
Born in Utica on August 15, 1930, Matt was the son of the late Dominick and Elizabeth (Gulla) Militano. He attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic School and then Proctor High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Mary T. Constabile. He and Mary wed on August 25, 1951, and shared a dedicated marriage of almost 65 years until her passing in July 2016.
Soon after their wedding, Matt honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
As a highly skilled journeyman machinist and sheet metal fabricator, Matt was a valued employee at Munson Machinery for 40 years, later serving as a consultant. A man of many talents, he could build or repair just about anything.
Family was the center of Matt's world. He considered his family to be his greatest blessing and was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, especially during the holidays. As a devoted husband, he described Mary as "the best wife I could have ever asked for." He was a very proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather - always selfless, steady, and supportive. Through all of life's joys and challenges, his strength, resilience, dependability, and gratitude remained constant.
Sports were one of Matt's lifelong passions. In his youth, he loved playing baseball and basketball. As a father, he proudly coached his sons' baseball teams and attended his daughter's volleyball and racquetball games. Later in life, watching professional sports became his favorite pastime, especially cheering for the Boston Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys.
As a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, he maintained a strong faith. He was also a member of American Legion Post 1290.
Matt's passing marks the end of a special generation. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary; his three siblings and their spouses, Anna and John Leone, Elizabeth and Joseph Deon, and Vincent and Frances Militano; as well as a very large family of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Constabile side; and nieces, nephews, and cousins on both Militano and Constabile sides of the family.
Matt is survived by his children and their spouses, Dominick and Mary Militano, Matthew W. Militano, Mark and Donna Militano, and Elizabeth Militano and Jill Dennison; his grandchildren and their spouses, Sara and David Feltes, Marie Militano and Jordan Brundige, Thomas and Brittany Militano; and Matthew D. Militano; and his first great-grandchild, Mara Brundige. He also leaves a sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. All were very dear to him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all whose calls and visits brightened Matt's days, and to the staff at Bethany Gardens for their care and compassion throughout his last two months.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Avenue in Utica. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Matthew's honor may be considered to the

Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, 648 Jay Street in Utica. Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Navy. Private interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
