Matt and I grew up together as Newtown neighborhood kids from age 5 or 6 I guess. We had a great crew back then - Matt, Sergio, Josh, Jim, Justin, Brian; and often the older and younger siblings too - and there are a lot of awesome memories. Manhunt in Matt and Sergio´s back yards, exploring Old Skunky, street hockey, BMX-ing at Shadle´s track, Nintendo in Matt´s attic, construction of the tree-fort in Matt´s back yard, and hanging out in the garage. Matt and I were little league champs with the Orioles ca. 1991. I got to go to the cabin with him once, which was awesome, and we later worked at Goodnoe´s together under the reign of Uncle Vinny. Matt was an awesome guy and loyal friend. He always told it like it was, was smart and witty, a great story-teller, and always made a point to ask how my family was doing. We lost touch for a bit during our 30s, but I´m grateful we were able to reconnect over the last years. We ran into Matt and Regan at the Grange Fair back in 2015, and most recently, Matt and I got together at Isaac Newton´s Christmas Eve 2022 to catch up. I´m so sad to see him go. My deepest condolences to all Matt´s family, relatives, and friends.

Matt's 7th birthday, with neighborhood kids, Dan and Sergio. We have fond memories of Matt growing up as neighbors, and reconnecting in later life. He was kind, gentle, and respectful. We will miss him.

My meeting Matt was inevitable, as we were backyard neighbors. Over many years we had a lot of fun, got into a little bit of mostly harmless trouble but laughed and joked through it all. I have so many shared memories as kids and family friends. The first time we met, it was the summer, and I was going by the front of their house. He jumped off his porch in Jean shorts and no shirt, eager to make friends with other neighborhood kids. He was so easy-going and engaging that had I even wanted to, I couldn´t have avoided him. Did I mention we were backyard neighbors? For many years, I considered him one of my very best friends. I have so many stories from that time I could share, because we were inseparable for a good while. My last memory made me feel like nothing had changed, even though it was twenty years later and a lot had changed. I was visiting home and he made a great effort to connect and carve out time to show me around, and spend a few evenings together. It felt like the same Matt-cracking jokes, intelligent and thoughtful conversation and expressing care and interest in what was happening in my life. He was loyal, trusting and trustworthy. I will remember him for so many great memories and experiences. And even though we had geographically been separated, our shared history was formative for me and I will miss him dearly. To Barbara, Jeff, Lori, I am so sorry. May he rest in peace.
