Matthew Timothy Oliverio

Matthew Timothy Oliverio, a man with a kind spirit deep in his heart and a desire for more, passed away unexpectedly in Los Angeles, California, on October 1, 2025. Born on July 7, 1990, in Yorba Linda, California, Matthew's journey was one marked by service, brotherhood and struggle.
He grew up in the warm embrace of Yorba Linda, where he was homeschooled with his siblings during his early education, forming the foundation of his strong character and faith. His educational journey continued through to St. Michael's Abbey which allowed him to develop his love for math and language. As a child he loved Legos, playing video games with his brothers, going to Yosemite, fishing and playing sports.
Despite facing a congenital challenge near his brain stem, Matthew's patriotic spirit and sheer determination were unwavering. His physical fitness, intelligence, and tenacity led to a special waiver through his State Representative, allowing him to enlist in the US Army. His service to his country was his focal point. He completed two deployments in Afghanistan where he earned several commendations and medals. The impact of his military service left an indelible mark on him, as the trauma and experiences in combat continued to weigh on his spirit.
After his honorable discharge, Matthew transitioned to civilian life, working in several jobs. He was loved by his coworkers and managers but always struggled to see his leadership talents and self-worth when those around him could. His final job was in security. His commitment to the safety and well-being of others was a testament to his enduring sense of duty, and people who worked with him experienced his kindness and loved him.
Matthew had dreams of moving to a ranch in Montana because he loved the mountains and open spaces. He desired to have a family and children but he struggled in daily life with alcoholism. He found working out or hiking to challenge his physical limits a way to keep going. His love for cooking was matched only by the joy he took in sharing his culinary creations with friends. He had a sharp mind that absorbed knowledge like a sponge, Matthew had a passion for languages and mathematics. He studied Russian, Spanish, and German, and his aptitude for numbers was remarkable. He often traveled to Asia where he helped a friend run and orphanage to educate children out of poverty, and he financially supported a child.
He was a very private person, and his faith was a quiet one with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that provided comfort and guidance. Matthew's love for his family was the cornerstone of his existence. He cherished them and saved every card
and gift they gave him. He is survived by his parents Tim and Liz Oliverio; his brothers, Benjamin Charles, Aaron Ralph, and Zechary Stephen; his sister, Anna Marie Martinez, brother -in -law Carlos Martinez, niece Sophia Martinez and nephew Gabriel Martinez.
Those who were close to and knew Matthew well will remember him for his wit, intelligence, and kindness. He could light up a room with his humor and warm hearts with his generosity. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of truly knowing him.
Matthew Timothy Oliverio's life was a tapestry of love, and selfless service, difficulty and suffering, He was someone with which your relationship was good or bad; there was no middle ground for Matt. As we mourn his untimely departure, we also celebrate the good he did in the lives of those who loved him and whom he loved. Rest in peace, dear Matthew, your memory will forever be a beacon of light in the lives of those you allowed into your heart.
