Matthew Potter Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 7, 2026.
Matthew Joseph Potter, entered into the glory of eternal life with his Savior on February 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Pflugerville, Texas, after a difficult battle with cancer. Matt was born on June 16, 1977, in Detroit, Michigan.

Graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Tech and subsequently earning a Master's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Kettering University, Matt embodied the very spirit of diligence and intelligence instilled in him by his education. His 26-year tenure as an engineer in the automotive industry was marked by dedication and innovation, culminating in 15 years as an expert in lithium-ion battery manufacturing for electric vehicles. Matt's passion and expertise led to his role as the Sr. Manager of Cell Formation Operations at Tesla.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Matt remember him not only for his intellectual acumen but for his contagious sense of humor and the faith that guided his life. He was a living testament to the grace that flows when one dedicates their life to the Lord, even in the deep valleys.

Matt's legacy is lovingly carried forward by his wife, Andrea Potter; his stepsons, Alex and Marcus; his sons, Simon and Zeke; and his daughter, Ethni. Survived by his father, Goerge Potter and his mother, Veronica Joseph DeLeon and many extended, loving family members. As a family man, Matt instilled in his children the values of kindness, intelligence, and humor. He led by example, teaching them to walk in faith and to face the trials of life with strength grounded in faith.

In Matt's free time he enjoyed Michigan's Great Lakes, fishing and camping with his family. In Michigan winters, he taught his boys to play broomball and watch hockey.

As we honor Matt's memory, we are reminded of the scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" (Matthew 25:21). We are comforted by the knowledge that Matt is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father, experiencing the fullness of joy and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

We bid Matt farewell, comforted by the knowledge that he is in the arms of his Savior. Until we meet again, we hold tight to his memory, forever grateful for the time we shared and the impact he made on our lives.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)
