Matthew David Smith, 37 passed away at 6:08pm, June 14, 2024, in Wood River, Illinois. He was born on January 30, 1987, in Granite City, Illinois. He was the son of the late David and Mary (Theis) Smith. He is survived by his girlfriend: Brandi Swain of Wood River, daughter Abigale Kaye Smith of Wood River, his sister Sarah Rose Smith of Wood River, a brother Steven Smith of Florida, a nephew: Rocky Bantz, Jr., and two nieces Nevaeh and Arianna Smith.
Matthew was a hard worker. He was a member of both the Drywall Union and Painters Union of St. Louis. He really enjoyed spending time teaching his daughter how to cook and was an exceptional griller.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother Paul David Smith.
In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois.
Memorials are suggested to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.

He would always stop by our house and talk with my uncle and I. I loved his nickname captain blacktooth. You always made us laugh, and I'm glad that you were in our life. Rest easy, Captain.
