Matthew "Matt" Donald Travis, 52, of Baxter, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Baxter Congregational Church in Baxter. His memorial service will follow and begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Benjamin Spera officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
He was born on November 14, 1971, in Corning, Iowa to Russell and Patricia (MacConnell) Travis. He grew up in Corning but in 8th grade his family relocated to Hopedale, Massachusetts. Matt graduated from Hopedale High School with the class of 1990. He then went to college at the University of Nebraska where he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1995. Following college, Matt moved to Baxter and began working for the State of Iowa Department of Corrections at Newton Correctional Facility. In 2000, he married Robin Delagardelle and the couple had 2 boys together and raised them in Baxter. They later divorced.
Matt was a loving father and enjoyed going to all of his kid's activities. He was so proud of both of their athletic and academic achievements. He was a proud CMB and Baxter Bolts supporter and an avid fan where Uncle Matt was known for having plenty of snacks and candy for all of the kids. Matt was very proud of his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with his dogs Dottie and Bud, spicy foods, brewing wine and beer, cooking for family and friends, bodybuilding, cheering on his Nebraska Huskers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, collecting sports memorabilia, visiting sports museums, and spending time with all of his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his loving memories are his boys Jake and Cody Travis; caring mother of his children Robin Travis; parents Russell and Patricia Travis; sister Patty Travis; brother Scott (Cara Atwood) Travis; nieces and nephews Josslynn, Jenner, Lindsay, Brianna, Brad, Jordan, Kennedy, Camdon, Megan, Macee, Kaleb, Braeden, and Averie; many aunts and uncles; cousins; and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald and Ruth MacConnell and Ester and Lloyd Travis; and close cousins Zach McMahon and Eddie DeJoinville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Matt and his family.
