Matthew Lynn Walker, 68, passed away in Willis, TX on December 18th, 2025. He was born March 3rd, 1957 to Lyndon Walker and Lee Kline.
He grew up in Pasadena, Texas and worked for his father’s successful granite business. He also had a deep passion for and excelled in writing.
He joined the Navy in 1985 and had an illustrious 13 year career, becoming a Navy Rescue Swimmer and Helicopter Crew Chief. He received the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, Operation Desert Shield, Storm Ribbon, Operation Southern Watch Ribbon, and the Expert Pistol Award all before being honorably discharged in 1998.
After the Navy he further pursued his passion for writing by going back to college and graduating at the age of 60 from the University of Houston, Clear Lake with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He went on to work as a journalist and write stories, and articles, for both the Houston Chronicle and the South Belt-Ellington Leader.
He is survived by his two children, Buddy and Lucy Walker, along with his granddaughter Bene.
His graveside service will be held at 1:15pm on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
