Mattie Selma Newman Gilmore, age 87, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 12, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Gillon and Rev. Mitchell McElhenney officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mrs. Gilmore was born July 5, 1938, in Caledonia, MS, to the late Floyd and Rhoda Belle Linley Newman. She attended New Hope High School and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she belonged to the 55 Plus Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gilmore was also a member of the Red Hats Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Larry Gilmore, brothers, Alfus Newman, Leonard Newman, Louis Newman, and James Newman, and sister, Fay Smith.
Survivors include her son, Don Gilmore of Columbus, MS, daughters, Elisa Sharron Tubbs of Columbus, MS, and Dana Lynn Fant and her husband Robin of Starkville, MS, grandchildren, Jessica Thomasson and her husband Bryant, Josh Gilmore and his wife Leah, Ashely Gilmore, Tanner Bryan and her husband Jack, Sylvia Grace Hollis and her husband Sam, and Jeremy Yarbrough and his wife Brittney, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Linsey, John Linsey, Josh Gilmore, Jeremy Yarbrough, Jack Bryan, and Samuel Hollis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 55 Plus Sunday School Class of Fairview Baptist Church.
