Mattie Lee "Jo" Sanders, 91, of Valdosta, GA, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at Langdale Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Nashville, GA, on January 22, 1934, to the late Dewey Lee Cooper and Mary Elizabeth Lanier Cooper, Jo was an avid gardener who found joy in nurturing flowers and creating beauty in her surroundings. She was also a talented quilter, crafting warmth and comfort for those she loved. Known for her generous heart, Jo was always there for others in times of need, offering support and kindness without hesitation.

A founding member of Greenwood Baptist Church, Jo's faith was central to her life, guiding her actions and shaping her legacy of love and service. She cherished the holidays, finding great joy in gathering with family, which was always of utmost importance to her.

Jo is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Sanders of Valdosta, GA; her beloved daughter, Tambra Faye "Tammy" Pope (David) of Crawfordville, FL; and three grandchildren: Victoria Lee-Anna Pope of Crawfordville, FL, Curtis Russell Pope of Chesterfield, VA, and David Bryan Pope, Jr. of Powhatan, VA. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Beau Charles, Wyatt, Landyn, Haven, and Lorelei. She leaves behind two loving sisters, Doris and Joyce; a close friend and sister-in-law, Betty Cooper, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, James, Johnny, and Junior Cooper.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Greenwood Baptist Church. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2pm. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
