Minister Mattie Mae Thomas
July 24, 1959 – October 29, 2024
Mattie Mae Thomas (Bullock) was born July 24, 1959 in Blitchton, FL to the late Wiser Jr. and Henrietta (Branton) Thomas. Mattie was the fifth sibling of six children born in this union. Mattie departed this earth on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Mattie was educated through the Marion County Public school system, earning her high school diploma from Dunnellon high school in 1977.
Mattie affectionately known as "Matt" worked over 20 years as a paraprofessional in special education for the Marion County Public school system, and later began a career in healthcare services with Hampton Manor Assisted Living where she retired in 2017. Because of Mattie's love and compassion for the patients and residents, she provided personal in-home care services for those in need. Mattie's life was filled with love and adventure. She loved to shop, especially thrift shopping as well as dining out with family and friends.
Soon after her retirement, Mattie served tirelessly in the community, providing support to family, friends, and neighbors until her transition...a trait she inherited from her mother. There was never anything she would not do for anyone. Mattie was truly the servant that God calls us to be.
A life-long member of the Pentecostal Denomination, Mattie's faith was a guiding light in her life. Her recent membership was held at Hazon Ministries (Prophetess Runnette C Jones - Ocala, FL). She dedicated herself to serving her church community with humility and grace, becoming a pillar of support and inspiration to her fellow congregants. Mattie received her ministerial license at God's Anointed Ministries, Inc. (Apostle Alma Cook - Ocala, FL). At a young age, Mattie was an active member of Pleasant Hill Church of God in Christ (The late Bishop B.T. Heflin - Dunnellon, FL). Upon marriage, she joined Miracle Bible Church of God (Apostle Robert Lee Pryor - Deland, FL), and later Freedom Outreach Help Center (Reverend Leroy Thomas - Dunnellon, FL). Her faith in God and commitment to spreading love and kindness touched countless lives.
On June 12, 1978, Mattie married her high school sweetheart, Gregory Bullock Sr., and from that union four children, Sheila, Gregory, Craig, and Kristen were born.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, Wiser and Henrietta (Branton) Thomas, and her siblings: Arthur Lee Thomas, Willie Lee Thomas, John Henry "Chop-Chop" Thomas, Queen Esther Thomas, and Randolph Thomas. She leaves her legacy and memories in the hearts of her children and their father Gregory Bullock Sr.; Sheila (Brian) Riley, Gregory (Jennifer) Bullock Jr., Craig Bullock, and Kristen (Breanna) Bullock; her grandchildren: Nathan (Chantell) Gaines, Christopher Short, Aaliyah Gaines, Jordyn Riley, Madison Short, Jermia Jackson, Mariah Short, Jaylen Bullock, Diamond Bullock, Emerson Short, Malachi Bullock, Makala Bullock, Alana Jackson, Jazmine Bullock, London Short, Imoni Shortt, Kayden Richardson, and Bryson Riley; her great-grandchildren: Kamya' Gaines, Sameer Perkins, Harlem Short, and Nolan Gaines; her siblings: Reverend Leroy (Rose) Thomas and Johnny Lee Thomas; her father-in-law: Apostle Robert (Eva) Pryor; her brother-in-laws: Errol Tavor, Robert C.
