Mattie Ruth Horton Todd, age 92, died in her sleep on the morning of Friday, March 15, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, James English Horton and Lillie MargaretHorton, sister Frances Horton, brother Troy David Horton and her husband, John David Todd. She is survived by her children, Frances Todd Stewart (John Cyril); Sammy David Todd (Judy); and Patricia Ann Painter (Dennis). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carrie Elizabeth Todd, David Stewart (Tessa); Sarah France (Craig); Whitney Pauline Bollinger (Trey); Zack Painter (Luz), Conner Painter, Lindsay (Matt Mysell); Mitchell Painter; Katherine Painter; and great grandchildren Laila Goodloe, John Luke Lewis, Eleanor Marie Lewis, Elizabeth Kate Bollinger George Richard Bollinger IV, Mary Josephine France, Cora Catherine Stewart, Henry Cyril Stewart; and Lou Ella Mysell.
She was born in the Shawnettee community of Collinwood, Tennessee on June 5th, 1931. She graduated from Collinwood High School (1948) and attend Florence State Teachers College (now University of North Alabama). She worked for General Shoe, was a teacher at Shawnettee and Mill Rock Elementary schools in Wayne County, an assistant at the Methodist Upper Room Publishing Co. and had a long career in the food brokerage business beginning with Cooper and Martin Brokers in Nashville prior to her retirement.
Words cannot express the depth of appreciation the family holds for the staff of West Meade Place who gave such loving care to her for the final two years.
Chapel and graveside services will be held at Springhill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216 (615) 437-9047 on Saturday, March 23rd at 10 AM. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 10 AM prior to the services.
