Maureen Dourney Obituary

Maureen Rose Dourney, 76, of Camden and formerly of Herkimer, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Siegenthaler Center.

Maureen was born in Herkimer, NY, on December 26, 1947, the daughter of the late Walter and Marion Collins Dourney. Maureen attended St. Frances de Sales Catholic School and Herkimer Senior High, where she graduated with the Class of 1965. She graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1967 and then attended Kent State University, where she graduated in 1971. She was, at one time, employed as secretary for the Curriculum Coordinator at Herkimer Central Schools. Maureen made her career as a business education teacher at Camden High School from 1972 until her retirement in 2004, giving 32 years of dedicated service to her students.

Maureen was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and was a devout Catholic, who was a communicant of both St. John's Church, Camden and St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.

She was an active member of Camden Teachers Association, serving as building rep, secretary, editor of the teachers' newsletter, delegate to NYSUT's representative assembly and chaired numerous teachers association committees. She was a member of NYS United Teachers Association, American Federation of Teachers, NYS Business Teachers Association and BPW.

Maureen was instrumental in spearheading the Clothing Connection which provides quality clothing, at low prices, to the Camden community.

Maureen is survived by her sister, Judith Dourney, of West Melbourne, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Linda Dourney, of Surprise, AZ and Daniel and Luanne Dourney, of Melbourne, FL; niece, Colleen Dourney; nephews, Michael Dourney, Stephen Dourney, Ryan Dourney, Kevin Dourney and Sean Dourney; very special friends, Dianne Hollibaugh and her children, Chad, Raymond, Kristen, Mario, Nathaniel and Meghan; several cousins; as well as many grandnieces and nephews.

Affectionately known as Mo, Aunt Mo, Momma Mo and G-Mo, she will be remembered for her kindness and generosity to all.

Maureen's Funeral will be held on Thursday morning, July 11, at 10:00 AM in St. Francis de Sales Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Bubiuch, Pastor. Interment will be immediately following in Calvary Cemetery for the family only. There will be no prior calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite charity or Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 or The Clothing Connection, 84 Main Street, Camden, NY 13316.

Mo was that teacher and staff member that always supported her student, colleagues and school. I worked with her for 4 1/2 years at Camden High School and found that every day she was a professional, caring teacher and colleague.

want to thank you for being there for my family when we needed you the most. You were there when we called you to go and help Dido with anything he needed. That was your nature. You were always there for my Mom when she needed you the most. You always remembered my birthday and sent the best gifts. I got so many compliments. You were genuine. You were kind. You were giving. You were you. The world has lost a beautiful, bright light. Thank you for being a part of my Life.

I will always remember Maureen for all that she was especially the Irish in her. If it was made or worn, Maureen owned it. She could entertain with her stories better than anyone I know. She was kind and generous and so welcoming. She was blessed to have had so many friends that knew and loved her especially her dearest friend, Dianne as she was with her always and by her side as she left our world to join God´s angels. God bless your soul Maureen

I knew Maureen as Moey Rose. We have been friends since our days at Cobleskill. Moey was the kindest, most caring and giving person. She never missed a special date or event in my life or that of my children or g-kids.
Moey had a ready smile and ability to laugh at herself. She was, indeed, a bright spot in so many people´s life.
Rest in peace my sweet and thoughtful friend.

"Mo" was definitely one of a kind. I was fortunate to be part of the clerical staff at Camden during a portion of her tenure and we were both communicants at St. John´s Catholic Church. She had a huge heart, an outgoing demeanor, and truly an Irish spirit. Rest in peace dear lady, you were a good and loyal servant.
