Maureen Theresa Greeley

Maureen Theresa Greeley, née Shaughnessy, passed away peacefully at her home on November 26 at 8:20 p.m. at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York, to Anne (Lally) and Edward Shaughnessy, Maureen attended school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, where she forged lifelong friendships. She began her career on Wall Street, including time at Horsehead Industries, followed by a stint in television at WWOR. After many enriching and happy years, she retired from Bergen Community College, where she was admired for her reliability, warmth, and steadfast determination.

Maureen made her home in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where she lived for over fifty years and created a warm, supportive environment for those she loved. She was the devoted wife of the late John Dermott Greeley and loving mother of five.

Maureen will be remembered for her infectious laugh, boundless warmth, unwavering optimism, and fierce independence. She was a steady force of love and stability to her family and was a trusted source of guidance and compassion within her community.

Anyone lucky enough to enjoy a cup of tea with Maureen was met with an understanding ear and an open heart. You were graced with a bit of laughter, a pearl of wisdom, or an enchanting tale as the conversation flowed, and time disappeared.

Her generous spirit and profound kindness touched every life she encountered.

Maureen is survived by her five children, Lise, John (Amy), Andrew (Alison), Matthew, and James; her eight grandchildren, M.J. Pineault, Christopher Pineault, Timothy Pineault, Drew Greeley, Kieran Greeley, Summer Greeley, Hudson Greeley and Jackson West-Greeley; her siblings, Mary Pilipiak, Patricia Devereux, Thomas Shaughnessy and John Shaughnessy; and generations of beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John D Greeley, her brother Edward Shaughnessy, and her sister Anne Regan.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, 306 E Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 am at The Church of the Presentation, 271 W Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ. Burial will be at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, NJ.
