Maureen C. Kelly

Kelly Maureen C. (nee Connelly) May 6, 2023, age 79. Wife of the late Joseph J. Kelly, Ph.D. She is survived by her son, Brendan J. Kelly, MD, and his wife, Rhea Powell, MD; her grandchildren, Malcolm and Juno Kelly; her sister, Renee Connelly, and Renee's family. She loved plants and trees, particularly those of her home in South Jersey. She made a career in biology, working for over 50 years in scientific publishing. She believed that better communication among scientists could improve scientific discovery and the world. She held leadership positions in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and other national organizations, where she was a strong advocate for women in science. She loved her friends and family with deep kindness and generosity, particularly in times of sadness or need. In her final years, she cherished time with her grandchildren and loved sharing books and crafts with them. She was a lifelong reader and learner but especially loved reading anything that Juno or Malcolm found interesting. Maureen's family will receive friends on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 2 - 3:15 P.M. at KAIN-MURPHY FUNERAL SERVICES, 15 West End Ave. Haddonfield, NJ; where words of remembrance will follow at 3:30 P.M.
