Maureen Lauby Obituary

Maureen Lauby

August 21, 1946 - December 2, 2025

Maureen Lauby passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the age of 79.

Maureen was born and raised in western Nebraska. She graduated from Mitchell High School. Maureen attended Chardon State College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she graduated with a Master's Degree. She was a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) and practiced counseling in Lincoln, and Lexington, Nebraska.

She married Richard Volkman. They had one daughter, Kirsten A. Volkmam. This marriage ended in divorce and Maureen would later meet and marry Greg Lauby. The couple moved to a farm by Lexington.

She was a school counselor at Lexington St. Ann's and would later begin her own private practice. Maureen loved gardening and found people endlessly fascinating. She will be remembered for her wit and laugher but foremost for compassion and wisdom shown to the many individuals and families that she helped through life's crises.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kirsten; and her parents, Hetti Pieper and Ted Pieper.

She leaves to mourn her many friends and former patients.

God Bless you Maureen. You will be missed.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Father Jose officiating.

There will be a Graveside Service at Robb Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to Sheltering Hands or the Lexington Community Foundation.
