Maureen Weil Obituary

Maureen Elvira Weil was born in Alexandria Louisiana, on November 29, 1941. As a young girl, she lived in Talahassee Florida, and eventually moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she, her parents and sister settled in the Uptown area. Maureen was a remarkable artist and horticulturist. Throughout her life, Maureen spent time traveling the United States of America, having visited 48 of the 50 states. Maureen's free and fun-loving spirit touched many as she always gave her all to those in need. Maureen passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023, at the age of 81. Maureen is survived by her two nephews, and niece(and spouses): Clifton Anthony Williams, Gerald Michael Williams(Penny) and Melanie Williams Dillon (Monroe). She has eight great nephews and nieces: Eric David Williams, Tess Marie Williams-Fischer, Gerald Michael Williams, II (L.G), Marquez David Williams, Amya Kristel Dillon, Jacob Tyler Dillon, Monroe Dillon, IV, and Bo Xander Williams. Maureen is also survived by her First Cousin, Elise Pettigrew; and Elise's Children Tyra Pettigrew Watty(Ronald) and Immaculata Pettigrew. Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Caldwell Weil and Eugenia Berger Weil, and sister, Sedonia Weil Williams. Maureen attended Walter L. Cohen Senior High School, graduating in 1960. After graduation Maureen's artistic talents granted her admission to the Art Institute of Chicago. Maureen would ultimately return to New Orleans where her worked with her father at Flint Goodrich Hospital, where he served as Superintendent, for twenty-two years. Maureen decided she would love to follow her passion for flowers and opened Angelle's Flower Hut, in New Orleans East. Aside from owning her own business, Maureen found a way to return to the field of Hospital Administration, at Jo-Ellen Smith Hospital, in Algiers and St. Claude Medical Center, in New Orleans. Maureen would find her true passion, post Hurricane Katrina as an Ombudsman, advocating for the elderly in nursing homes and long term care facilities. Maureen worked as an Ombudsman while living in Gonzales, and after she returned to New Orleans, until she retired. Maureen's loving and generous spirit touched so many. She did not have any children, but helped to raise Clifton, Gerald, and Melanie as if they were her own. There was nothing Maureen would not do for her loved ones, and her pets! Maureen showed the ultimate act of service, as she donated her body to science, to improve medical research and for the healing of others. A memorial and celebration of Maureen's life will be on Saturday, March 4, at 11:00 am: Lion of Judah Ministries: 2844 St. Anthony, NOLA 70119. We would like to extend a special thanks Lion of Judah Ministries for their support and use of facilities. We would also like to thank Lisa Camper, who helped and supported the bereaved family at this time. Your sacrifice and time are greatly appreciated.

This was a very sweet and overly compassionate lady I met while she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She served as an usher. I will never forget her words of encouragement whenever I needed advice. RIP my sweetie!

I did not know Miss Maureen but I read her obituary and felt a connection with a Lady who lived life to the fullest and shared her all with others. I am sure she was an inspiration to family and friends and will be sorely missed.
We can all be comforted knowing when we lose a love one that we will be reunited one day in the Lord. Rest in Peace Miss. Maureen.
