It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maurice "Rick" Richard Meeker II, 61, who left us on December 1, 2025. Born on March 1, 1964, in Warren County, Ohio, Rick made his home in Belmont, NC, where he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Rick proudly served in the U.S. Navy from June 1, 1981, until February 3, 1984. After his service, he honed his skills as a carpenter, dedicating many years to the construction industry. Rick had a passion for building and creating, which he approached with unwavering determination.
Not just a skilled craftsman, Rick was also a devoted member of City Church in Gastonia. He found great joy in participating in the men's Bible study group and the "Betterman" group, where he made lasting friendships while exploring his faith.
Rick had a love for sports, especially football. He channeled that love into coaching Pop Warner football in Belmont, where he inspired young athletes as part of the "Mighty Mights", for 9 years.
Above all, Rick cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sandra "Sandy" Meeker; son, Richard Meeker III (Jasmine), Steven Rush Meeker (Heather); grandchildren, Kernan Smith and Odin Meeker; siblings, Ric Glenn, Teresa Ramsey, Kim Fisher, Scott Meeker, Rebecca Meeker; step mothers, Norma Carroll and Judy Meeker; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Chad Pinyan, Ella Rowyn Pinyan, Andy Childs, and Lisa Moss, all who will always carry his spirit in their hearts.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Meeker Sr and Beatrice Glenn; step father, Rush Roger Glenn.
Family, friends, and all who knew Rick are invited to come together to remember him. A memorial service will be held at City Church, 3100 City Church St, Gastonia, NC, 28056, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM. A visitation will be held after the services at the church.
Memorials can be made to City Church.
As we gather to honor the memory of Rick, let us celebrate his kind spirit, generous heart, and the love he shared with everyone around him. He will truly be missed.
