Ellen Maurine Jenkins Cooke passed from this life Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the age of 94.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam Baptist Church in Marion with Pastor John Nicholson officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at Marion City Cemetery with Bro. Doug Vance officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Maurine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She also served as substitute mother to many students of Judson College and Marion Military Institute. Born May 5, 1930, Maurine lived her entire life in Marion and was a lifelong member of Siloam Baptist Church.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Celeste Jenkins; step-father, Morgan Worrell; husband, Wilbur Orlean Cooke, Sr.; daughter, Carol Geneva Cooke (Eddie) Bailey; daughter-in-law, Vicki Cooke; three brothers, three sisters, five brothers-in-law, and three sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Judy Cooke Travis, Wilbur Orlean Cooke, Jr., John Anthony Cooke and Lacretia Cooke (Ray) Edwards; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Billie Marie Creel and sister-in-law, Christine Cooke Poe.
Pallbearers will be Michael Edwards, William Edwards, Ben McGill, Martin Bailey, Gage Bailey and Justin Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be her Siloam Baptist Church Family and the staff of Southland Nursing Home.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, he has set me free.
