Mavis Minott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paradise Memorial Funeral Home - Miami on Apr. 30, 2025.
Mavis Olive Ricketts was born to Alfred Ricketts and Ruth Valentine On August 9,1942, in Westmorland, Jamaica. She was the seventh of eight children.
Mavis completed her Primary and Secondary Education in Jamaica. Her two sisters, Pauline and Rose Ricketts, migrated to England. When Mavis became of age, she desired to join her sisters in England to pursue a career in the medical field, but destiny had other plans for her. Her admission into England was denied. Mavis' Sister then informed her that a friend of hers was in the United States and that she could receive the same opportunity there as well. Mavis then set forth to complete all that was required for her to enter the United States. Once she completed what was required for her entry to the US, she was then successful.
As destiny had planned for Mavis, in1967, she set forth to migrate to the US where she would meet her husband Franklin James Minott. Through their union she gave birth to Brian, Patrice, Patrick, and Curtis Minott. She began working temporarily as a housekeeper. Mavis later worked in a clothing factory in downtown Miami as a seamstress for eight years. Shortly thereafter she transferred to a job at South Miami Hospital in Environmental Management where she remained for 18 years. After that, Mavis worked in a few retail stores and with The Girl Scouts, at which she worked until she retired at the age of 70.
Mavis is survived by Patrice Minott, Patrick Minott, Curtis Minott; nine grandchildren: Travis Minott, Chanel Minott, Randall Minott, Brandon Minott, Kiara Minott, Annisey Minott, Akillius Minott and Kaylee Minott; four great-grandchildren: Kourtney Tinson, Ja'kai Minott, Ari'yah Minott, and Jaylani Dunios, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
