Wanda Mavis "Nannie" Rowbotham was born on August 21, 1933, in the Cave Springs area outside of Locust Grove, OK, to George "Jim" Simeon & Bertha Jessie (McFarland) Ross. She departed this life on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at her home in Locust Grove, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years, 1 month, & 27 days of age.
Mavis attended Hogan School through the 8th grade & graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1951. She later attended Tahlequah Beauty College.
On March 15, 1952, Mavis was united in marriage to Louie Henry Rowbotham at the courthouse in Eureka Springs, AR. To this union were born two sons, Mike & James, & one daughter, Pat. The couple shared more than 51 years of marriage before Louie's passing on October 10, 2003.
A lifelong resident of Locust Grove, Mavis spent her working years serving others in many ways. She worked as a bank teller at the Bank of Locust Grove, as a beautician in Pryor, and later as a florist at Madelyn's Flower Shop, where her creativity & kind spirit shined through her work.
Mavis was a longtime member of Hogan Free Will Baptist Church, where she joyfully led worship & children's activities, helped organize Vacation Bible School, & took part in planning the yearly Christmas programs. In later years, she attended Jubilee Ministries in Locust Grove, continuing to live out her strong & steadfast faith.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, & reading, & she especially loved having visitors. Mavis cherished attending family gatherings & high school reunions, always finding joy in reconnecting with loved ones & friends.
Mavis will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith, a devoted mother & grandmother, & an angel among her family-known by many as a saint. She was gentle & kind-hearted, with the best chuckle that could brighten any room. She will be missed by all that knew & loved her.
Mavis is survived by: 2 sons: Michael "Mike" Rowbotham of Locust Grove, OK, James Rowbotham of Tulsa, OK, & 1 daughter: Pat Jackson of Locust Grove, OK; 7 grandchildren: Reece Rowbotham & wife Jeannie, Sally Jackson & husband Jason Hooker, Kim Cooper & husband Nate, Jenny Williams & husband Tate, Angela Thompson & husband Brett, Christina Grass, & Bryan Hurry & wife Elizabeth; 24 great grandchildren; 40 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother: Roy Ross & wife Barbara of Locust Grove, OK; Along with numerous other relatives & a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; 2 brothers: Allen Wayne Ross & C.J. Ross; 2 sisters: Margaret Maxine Ross & Nita Downing; 1 daughter-in-law: Cheryl Rowbotham; 1 son-in-law: Terry Jackson; & 1 grandson: Michael Wayne Rowbotham.
Funeral services for Mavis will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Blair & Brother Shawn Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove, OK. Services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
